The Wolf Hunting crisis

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 17, 2009, 1:23 PM

PLease read all of this before you make an uneducated response:

its easy for you all to say obama is wrong to wanting to sign the wold hunting petition when you don't witness the problem first hand.
the wolves have become too overcivilized and have been preying on small children and valuble farm animals as well as pets all throughout montana, wyoming, and idaho.

how do i know this?
i have been a wyoming state resident for the past 10 years. if they stayed in the parks like they were intended to or released somewhere far less populated it would be less of a problem. but they are not going to.

humans have been hunting all animals including wolves for thousands of years.
because of the recent wolf population spiked, they have been also preying heavily on the local elk herds, which are rapidly dwindling as it is. this is more of population control if anything - you really have to choose... if you don't want to let people hunt wolves, do you ever want to see elk wild again? or deer or moose for that matter?
you cant control a few hundred species like we have for as long as we have and just one day up and let go of the reins. why? because that causes instant chaos. the situation is similar to when you have a handle on a room of kindergartners and suddenly stop caring or paying attention to them for a few hours - IT DOESNT WORK.

and so because we got to this point, we have to maintain population control in predatory species to ensure prey species survive the end of this century at least. they are NOT allowing enough killings of wolves that will bring it to be endangered again - in fact they are only choosing a number that is about 2 times as many would die on their own due to natural accidents.
so as much as i'm sure your proud of yourself for "helping" you really must consider what your doing to other species by not allowing some population control. (besides wolves reproduce about 2 times a year and have litters of up to 4-8 puppies if the conditions are right)
95% of the people in those states i mentioned before hunt ONLY because they need the meat to feed themselves and their families year round - without the elk to hunt - some of these families would starve because the pay rate and hours for work available are much lower in these places. on top of that alot of these people have cattle they raise, feed, breed and sell for their income, if the wolf population is too big they will overpower these farms and kill off the valuable livestock - leaving you without your friday night primerib you could have got last week at outback steakhouse. and these people without a job, food or any other livelihood.
Just imagine yourself in their situation - if you were in their place you would have a rather different opinion. we dont hate wolves in the midwest - we don't want them all gone. we just want balance and harmony, which unfortunately to you isn't quite possible without a little population control.
there will still be a ton of wolves after the hunting seasons i promise. the forest rangers and government will make sure of that
